WORSHIP

Sundays: 9:30 am Holy Eucharist

Wednesdays: 6:00pm Evening Prayer

Fridays: Noon Holy Eucharist

Holy Eucharist is the principal worship service on Sundays. Occasionally, we will pray Morning Prayer instead. We generally celebrate Holy Eucharist Rite II from The Book of Common Prayer. During the penitential seasons of Advent and Lent, we follow Rite I. Holy Eucharist in the Episcopal Church consists of two parts: The Word of God and The Holy Communion.

During the Word of God portion we humbly present ourselves to Almighty God in song and prayer and listen to four readings from the Bible. This portion of the service includes a sermon.

During the Holy Communion portion, we offer ourselves to God in thanksgiving for the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ, on the Cross and for Christ's Resurrection, by which sin and death were defeated for ever.

Holy Communion is administered with bread and wine. In the Eucharistic Prayer, Christ becomes really present in the elements. All Christians baptized in the Name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are welcome to receive the bread and/or the wine. Gluten free bread is available on request. Everyone regardless of their faith tradition or preparation is welcome to come to the altar rail for a blessing.

If you are interested in learning more about Baptism or if you would like to learn more about becoming a member at St. John of the Cross, please contact Fr. Tom. He will be happy to talk to you about the preparation and process.

Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer are prayer services from the Daily Office. They involve prayers and listening to lessons from the Bible. These rites are also found in The Book of Common Prayer.
